COPING SKILLS STORY BOOKS
Order individual printed copies; each book contains at least eight age appropriate coping skills stories.
Delinquency, school dropout and drug-using behavior in adolescence are usually preceded by a number of risk factors that present themselves early on in a child’s development. These behaviors may be acting-out behavior and impulsivity, and problems in school such as aggressiveness with peers and academic underachievement.
Current research shows that prevention interventions with young, school-age children should mobilize protective factors such as impulse control, parental support, and social and academic competence, and reduce the risk factors described above before problem behaviors develop. (Hawkins, Catalano, Kosterman, Abbott, & Hill, 1999)
The Coping Skills story books consist of carefully constructed metaphorical fables that are designed to teach children about their thinking, about the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and about how to change what they are thinking, feeling, and doing when their behavior causes them problems.
Each book contains at least eight age appropriate Stories that will help you raise happier more successful children. The Story along with the guidance provided with the “Worksheets”, “Rationale” and “Exercises” will help your child develop a sense of confidence that they are able to handle issues like peer pressure, school expectations and taking personal responsibility. In the back of each story book are the "Parent Notes" that go with each story. The “Notes” will guide you in helping your child with opportunities to develop effective coping skills.
There is no need to worry if your child can deal with a problem such as peer pressure or fear of failure if through the use of these specifically designed metaphorical stories, you have taught them effective coping skills. The stories of the Coping Skills series provide you with an enjoyable, effective way to communicate with your child about the lessons of dealing with life's difficulties. |
